Large, upright native tree that thrives in wet waterlogged conditions as well as rather dry soil. Foliage turns bright orange-brown in fall. Pyramidal shaped when young and rounded with age. The 'Frio River' selection, grown from seed sourced from central Texas, is more tolerant of alkaline soil areas of the state.
